Green School
Green Flag Award
In Spring 2009, Drim N.S. achieved it’s green flag. The Green Schools Committee, the children and teachers had been working hard to achieve our Green Schools motto:
We manage our waste properly and we keep our school litter free.
The three Rs, Reduce, Reuse and Recycle, are now part of the ethos of the school. All recyclable materials are collected together; compost materials are added to our own compost bin; batteries, ink cartridges, etc. are properly disposed of. This ensures that minumum waste is sent to landfill.
The children have taken on the challenge of ensuring the school stays litter free with constant monitoring of rubbish both inside and outside and clean-ups from time to time. The Green Schools committee carry out a litter survey at regular intervals to keep us all on our toes.
Cleaning up
The Green Schools programme is a seven step for continual improvement, promoting long-term whole school action for the environment.
